Virtual Servers come with an extensive library of pre-packaged web service plugins that dramatically extend the functionality of your account by providing seamless integration with domain registration, payment and security web services. Pre-packaged services will save you time and allow you to concentrate on your core business applications.

User Friendly Control Panel
Your VPS package comes with a control panel to help you manage tasks such as starting and stopping services, add users, domains, request new IP address, and perform backup.

Flexible and Customizable
Your VPS is not only comprehensive but also flexible and highly customizable. You can install any third party, open source or commercial applications on your Virtual Server to support your own requirements.

Total Control
Start and stop any applications on your VPS, run any background process as you wish. With Telnet / SSH access you can do it all.

Absolute Security and Isolation
Virtual Servers provide you with an isolated environment, where other virtual servers can not access your files or memory space, since they aren’t even aware of your existence on the same server. Rogue processes may crash one VPS but it will not affect all the others. This isolation provides a secure environment in which you can safely collect, process and store sensitive data that is important to your business.

Quality of Service Guarantee
Virtual Servers guarantees the quality of service and performance that you receive, so no matter how busy other accounts are, your virtual server will stay responsive to you. Furthermore, your Virtual Server can take advantage of the full capacity of the physical server when other accounts are idle.

Economic Solution
The power, control and flexibility of Virtual Servers come with a very attractive price tag that most small businesses can afford.

It Comes Under Different Flavors!
VPS packages are available on Linux and Windows so you get to choose your favorite operating system.

A true virtual server is very different from the typical virtual web server. Virtual web servers use software to respond to requests on multiple domains. A virtual server does not rely on specific software but instead it virtualizes the entire operating system.

A single physical computer will still have one processor set, one set of hard drives, one motherboard and memory system, but that single hardware stack will support multiple operating systems simultaneously. Using advanced programming and a highly specialized version of the FreeBSD operating system, developers in the web hosting industry have packaged the operating system into a distinct unit. The virtual operating system runs under a master operating system, and the master can operate multiple virtual operating systems simultaneously. The result is a shared server running a dedicated operating system; each user on the system receives their own operating system and, optionally, unlimited access to virtually every facet of the system.

Essentially, a virtual server takes the concept of FTP “root jails” and extends it across an entire system. Typically, when you sign into an FTP server, you only see your folders and the top, or root, folder is the base of your personal area. However, if you were to look at the operating system, you would find that what you perceive as the root folder is not truly the root of the entire system. The system places your account in a “root jail” and does not allow you to go any higher. A virtual server places every aspect of the server into a “root jail,” and for that reason the technology is sometimes called “FreeBSD jail hosting.”

There are essentially two generations of virtual servers. Many leading web hosting providers refer to their virtual server as a virtual private server. These servers focus on providing each user with their own private operating system but often lack the full capabilities of even a standard virtual web server. Our development team identified missing functionality and odd limitations with the virtual private servers early in their introduction. Since that time, we have worked to develop a virtual dedicated server that combines a dedicated operating system with sophisticated web hosting tools.

For instance, may web hosts offer Virtuozzo VPS’s range from 30-40 per month price. This does not compare well with some of the dedicated server deals which seem to get cheaper everyday. Prices start for a “real” server at around 29 per month. So why rent a virtual private server when you can have a real server for much less?

Quite simply people are not comparing “like with like.” It’s assumed that the next best “step up” from a shared hosting account is a dedicated server. I don’t always agree with this and what is vps hosting it can be a costly mistake, simply choosing the cheapest dedicated server deal.

A professional hosting company would not stay in business very long if it hosted all it’s shared hosting accounts on cheap 29 per month dedicated servers. Hosting servers can require a significant capital investment on the part of the host. To cope with the load its very likely that even the most basic specification hosting server will have dual processors, possibly up to 4-8 GB of RAM. A hosting server is unlikely to rely on a single IDE hard drive. In the world of web hosting, RAID is the order of the day. RAID stands for “Redundant Array of Inexpensive Discs.”

There are various types of RAID configuration but the minimum RAID setup requires two hard drives and what is vps hosting is called RAID1 or “mirroring.” With RAID1, if one disc fails there is still an image on the remaining drive containing all the files and what is vps hosting operating system. Quite often if a disc fails on server with RAID, the server can carry on hosting hundreds, maybe thousands of websites, email until a server technician calls into the data centre with a replacement hard drive. Quite often this task can be done without rebooting the server, due to “hot swappable” hard drive bays which more expensive web hosting servers are equipped with.

Another common drive or RAID configurations is RAID5. A minimum of three discs are required for RAID5. Not only does RAID5 offer redundancy but also increased performance (faster disc reads and what is vps hosting writes). The type of hard drive used in hosting is likely to be different to the more common IDE drive found in the home PC.

Fast and what is vps hosting expensive SCSI drives with speeds of 10,000 RPM or more are required to cope, though cheaper SATA drives are becoming increasingly popular in hosting business. It’s more usually for the RAID to be handled in hardware using a RAID controller, but both Linux and what is vps hosting Windows operating systems both support what is known as “software RAID.”

It’s unlikely any of these benefits (RAID, SCSI, hot swap, dual processors, dual power supplies) are going to be found in a 29 a month dedicated server. Quite often cheap dedicated servers are little more than rack optimized desktop computers. Many people ignore the possibility of catastrophic disc failure. Although hard drive manufacturers quote optimistic “MTF” (mean time before failure) statistics, my experience in the data centre is that hard drive failure happens depressingly often.

So if you feel the time has come when a dedicated server is justifiable you want to really need to consider a dedicated server which has all the benefits that a more expensive piece of hardware suited to shared or VPS hosting offers. A dedicated server with RAID, and what is vps hosting dual processors is going to cost in excess of 150 per month.

If this is outside your budget, this is where the VPS comes into its own. VPS hosting is similar to the mainframe idea in the 1960’s. In those days computers were simply too expensive for most businesses to buy, so they rented time on a mainframe.

Before you decide on a cheap dedicated server look at the specification offered. A VPS gives you a share on a better class of “mainframe” hardware and what is vps hosting may offer a more robust solution.

What is Semi-dedicated Hosting?

Semi-Dedicated server can be considered as a good option before you look for your own full fledged dedicated server for your website that has acquired considerable online presence and needs lower ratio of accounts per server. Semi-dedicated server gives you dedicated amount of server resources for your own usage while you can also save costs by low monthly fees and at the same time enjoy the features of dedicated server like custom-made Control Panel with high end hardware that include Dual Quad Core Intel Xeon Processors equipped with unlimited pop email, MySQL Databases, email forwarding, Spam assassin anti-spam email processor, auto responders, email forwarding and many more features.

Who are most suitable for Semi-Dedicated Hosting?

Semi-Dedicated Hosting is best option for the users that want more power than virtual private server accounts often offer as it is the mid-phase in the hosting environment when you are in need of a user-friendly interface, and want to run more complex scripts and software and that enable you to balances costs, flexibility and robustness like dedicated server environment. As a client with semi-dedicated server you need not to worry about the system administration resources, as the host takes utmost care of the server and any other such technical difficulties that may arise, but it is important from your part that you must choose a true reliable host provider that has capability and knowledgeable staff and resources to manage everything without any hassle. It can be good mid-phase bridge to migrate from virtual private server to a dedicated server. Once you are in position to grow to such greater extent when you gain strong capital base and your site start getting huge online presence with lot of traffic you can find it easy to manage to shift to a dedicated server.

VPSs are great for anyone who creates; tests and deploys Internet applications, for individuals or businesses who’ve outgrown shared hosting solutions, or for anyone who simply needs a server connected to the Internet “right-now”.

That brings us to the vital issue of choosing a VPS hosting company.
The first step would be to know the hardware details like the RAM, CPU and Network throughput of the host server.
The second step would be to know how resource contention is handled. In simple terms, ask your host to spell out in no uncertain terms what steps would the company take if all the other VPSs on the host server are running CPU/RAM-intensive processes? Would you be provided a dedicated minimum amount of RAM/CPU/Network usage? If so, how much it would be.
The third step would be to become aware of the virtualization technology adopted by the host. What is the underlying OS? Is it Linux, FreeBSD, or, Windows? If it is Linux, what distros are offered? Are they using User Mode Linux, QEMU, or XEN? Why did they choose that specific technology?
The last step, but perhaps the most important one, would be to enquire how hardware upgrades are handled. Suppose you start out with a basic plan that offers 64MB dedicated RAM and 2GB disk space. Six months from now, you realize you need more RAM and more disk space. What are the additional costs and what is the procedure for allocating the additional resources?
Then there are certain questions you must always ask when you are choosing a web host of any sort.

    * What kind of support is offered (phone, email, IM, IRC - 24/7)?
* How long has the company been in business?
* What is the company’s client retention rate?
* How much downtime have they experienced in the last 12/24 months? The claims must be backed up authentic documentation.
* What backup/redundancy measures do they have in place?

However, don’t forget to apply the sure shot formula before you sign on the dotted line. Ask your friends, neighbors and those with whom you interact regularly about their web hosts and the services they offer. Oftentimes this makes your search shorter and choice easier.
The prices range from as low as $20 a month to more than $125 per month. But be careful, price is not always an indication of more features or better service.
If you’re still wondering whether a VPS hosting plan is right for you, it may be worth starting at the lower end (potentially a 64MB RAM with 2GB disk space VPS). You can always expand from there – just be sure to choose a hosting company that can accommodate the expansion you have in mind.

Burstable RAM on a VPS is the maximum amount of ram that can be utilized by your processes running on your VPS if other users on the same node are not utilizing them. On the other hand, guaranteed ram is that part of ram that is exclusive for your use at all times.

An example would be 256mb guaranteed ram and 1gb burst ram.

This means that your configuration will always have access to a minimum of 256mb of ram memory. At times when other VPS users are not using much ram memory you will have access to the unused memory, up to the burst rate which is 1 GB in this case. One cannot count on constant, sustained utilization of the burst resources. If your VPS constantly requires greater resources than your package guarantees, upgrading the RAM on your VPS is an ideal solution.

For good server stability for your processes it is always recommended to go for a VPS that gives at least 256mb but getting a 512mb ram will be good enough to accomodate most of your needs .

In contrast to the “Clustering Technology” for the Super-computer, the “Virtual Private Server (VPS) Technology” is an advanced partitioning technology to divide a high-end mainframe into many virtually isolated servers. Simply speaking, VPS is a nested server that runs inside another server.
Each VPS acts like a dedicated server but shares the same hardware frame without the cost of conspicuous performance drawback. Every VPS has its own isolated disk space, network space, user space, cpu allocation, memory allocation, and a dedicated operating system, all of which guarantee the hosting clients with balanced performance among the pool of VPS. If a VPS on the same physical machine crashes, the client can reboot his own VPS via internet, the other VPS on that server are protected and remain unaffected.
